On February 27, 2025, Child Trends hosted Through Our Eyes: Early Childhood Educator Experiences with the DC Pay Equity Fund: A Photovoice Exhibition in Washington, DC. The event took place at Treehouse, a multidisciplinary art gallery and community space in DC’s Northwest quadrant. The exhibition showcased 30 photographs and narratives from educators who participated in the photovoice project.

This event brought together a variety of stakeholders in DC, including early childhood educators, community organizers, researchers, and others.

Chrishana Lloyd (co-principal investigator of the photovoice project) and Andrea Vazzano (photovoice activity lead) offered opening remarks discussing the decades of incremental policy reforms and advocacy that led to the Fund, and the role of photovoice in elevating early childhood educators’ experiences with the Fund.
