The Child Trends Hispanic Institute provides timely and insightful research-based information and guidance to improve outcomes for Latino children. The Hispanic population represents one of the largest, most demographically heterogenous populations in the country, at over 65 million people and one quarter of all U.S. children. The U.S. Census projects that 30 percent of the U.S. child population will be of Hispanic heritage by 2050. In supporting Latino families with children, Child Trends’ interdisciplinary team adopts a strength-based approach to our research that explores the myriad factors that influence their well-being. Our applied research agenda examines some of the most important issues facing Latino families, including poverty, child care, education, and family dynamics. Our goal is to analyze factors that hinder families’ access to opportunities for economic mobility, self-sufficiency, and overall well-being. Further, we build capacity in the field by providing tools, resources, and guides for researchers and by supporting emerging scholars. Through our operation of the Child Trends Hispanic Institute, our leadership of the National Research Center on Hispanic Children & Families, our upcoming Latino Families Flourishing Project, and our partnership with academic research centers and funders, we provide policymakers, practitioners, the media, corporate leaders, parents, and private philanthropy with knowledge about Latino children, youth, and families in the United States to inform decisions. We do this by providing statistical portraits of Hispanic children and youth, expanding the evidence base by developing and conducting evaluations of programs aimed at Latinos, and building the data infrastructure on Hispanic children and youth. Our work reaches those who need it. We have connected with the general public through outlets such as CNBC and NBC News and work directly with policymakers.
