New Insights for Sexual Health
What is NISH?
New Insights for Sexual Health (NISH), funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is an innovative initiative with a clear mission: to enhance engagement with CDC STI/HIV program priorities, foster collaboration among partners, and build capacity for lasting impact.
There were more than 2.2 million reported STIs in 2024. While progress has been made in recent years in syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea, overall cases are 13 percent higher. Congenital syphilis (which affects infants) has also risen over the last 12 years, indicating a pressing public health challenge for youth and young adults in the United States. Reducing STIs and supporting overall health requires a coordinated approach that brings together organizations, resources, and people across a range of sectors.
We support the syndemic approach (i.e., considering how different health conditions and social contexts coincide and exacerbate one another) used by the CDC’s Division of STD Prevention by sharing guidelines, tools, and trainings that promote comprehensive services and technical assistance. We provide these resources to organizations to help them prioritize sexual health, meet people where they are, and foster open conversations that allow people to get the health support they need.
