Shelby Hickman is a bilingual research scientist in the reproductive health and family formation area at Child Trends. Her research interests include improving the health and wellbeing of adolescents involved in the juvenile justice system, substance abuse among high risk adolescents, and adolescent pregnancy prevention. Ms. Hickman is experienced in qualitative research methods including focus groups, semi-structured interviews, and cognitive interviews. She has particular expertise in recruiting hard to reach populations including high-risk adolescents and their caregivers, and non-English speaking populations. She also implements advanced quantitative analyses. Ms. Hickman received her MPH in 2011 and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from the University of Maryland School of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
