Sara Appel is a senior research assistant in the reproductive health and family formation program area at Child Trends. She graduated with a BA from the University of Michigan, where she majored in history and sociology, with a focus in social work and social change. Prior to working at Child Trends, Sara worked as a field organizer for the Michigan Democratic Party. While at the University of Michigan, Sara worked as a research assistant examining how minority groups are represented in history curricula around the US. She also interned with 313Reads, an initiative to boost grade level reading throughout Detroit. Her areas of interest include public service, education equity, and women’s reproductive rights.
