Research Communications Specialist II

Joseph Boven joined Child Trends in July 2021 as a research communications specialist. He leads and advises on digital and traditional media efforts and provides strategic communication guidance across projects. Joseph leads communications efforts for the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation Website and Strategic Communications contract and the National Research Center for Hispanic Children & Families, guiding communications efforts with his expertise in strategic communications, stakeholder and community engagement, messaging, and content creation.

Previously, Joseph was the head of communications for Marzano Research and served as the project lead for the Regional Educational Laboratory Central contract for the Institute of Education Sciences. Among his former communications leadership positions, he served as the senior content manager for the Colorado Health Foundation and communications director for the Colorado Progressive Coalition. Throughout his career, he has provided government officials, school districts, non-profit organizations, and companies with everything from crisis communications and media relations to user interface and user experience web design, digital and content marketing, and strategic campaign planning. Prior to his work in communications, he worked as a legislative and investigative reporter and researcher, and in broadcast production roles. Joseph received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and English from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
