Resources and Solutions to Address Burnout in Public Health Settings

ResourcesHealthAug 3, 2026

Burnout is a serious and widespread problem in the health care and public health fields, and those who provide sexually transmitted infection (STI) care are not exempt from feeling its effects. Burnout often manifests as emotional exhaustion, a growing sense of detachment from one’s clients/patients, and a feeling that one’s work no longer makes a difference. Left unaddressed, burnout results in lower quality of care and increased errors. This is especially important in STI care, where shame and stigma already make communication and treatment harder.

Fortunately, burnout can be addressed at both the personal and systemic level: Navigate our slides to find some practical, research-backed solutions! Each slide has a choice of links tailored to your interests, with navigation buttons to return to the home screen and to view a map of all available choices.
