El Camino Adaptation Guide

Research BriefSexual & Reproductive HealthDec 7 2021

The El Camino Adaptation Guide provides facilitators and curriculum implementers with the tools and resources to guide them in making appropriate adaptations to El Camino, an adolescent sexual health promotion curriculum, while maintaining program fidelity. Many program facilitators adapt curricula to better serve their youth populations, and this guide will help them make adaptations in line with curriculum core components that will not jeopardize potential benefits to youth.

The El Camino curriculum aims to promote adolescent sexual health by encouraging youth to set goals, make informed sexual and reproductive health choices, and have healthy relationships. El Camino targets English- or Spanish-speaking Latino adolescents, low-income adolescents, and mixed gender adolescents in the United States, and has been implemented with a wide range of students ages 13 to 20. Child Trends is currently conducting a multi-year evaluation of El Camino in high schools in Montgomery County, MD.
