With over fifteen years of senior-level, strategic communications expertise, Jody Franklin Appointed Vice President for Strategic Communications and Outreach

BETHESDA, Md. – Today Child Trends announces the hire of Jody Franklin as vice president for strategic communications and outreach. Franklin most recently served as chief of staff and director of communications for the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program.

Franklin—who has managed communications teams at the Economic Policy Institute, Share Our Strength, and the United States Department of Labor, and served as Hillary Clinton’s chief of staff in the 1992 Clinton for President Campaign—brings a range of management and public policy experience to her new role.

“Jody’s expertise is in translating research, data, and policy to target audiences using clear and compelling language, traditional and social media relations, and the most effective digital tools,” said Carol Emig, president of Child Trends. “We are delighted to welcome Jody to Child Trends.”

Franklin added, “I am passionate about Child Trends’ mission to help children and young people be safe and healthy so they can learn and thrive. Child Trends’ rigorous research is critical to the development and implementation of effective policy and programs that serve kids and I look forward to being part of this work.”

Franklin holds a B.A. in Political Science and Women’s Studies from Wellesley College and an M.A. in Public Policy and Management from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. She will be based in Child Trends’ headquarters in Bethesda.
