Sarah is a research assistant on the education team. Prior to joining Child Trends, Sarah graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish and a minor in Education, Schooling, and Society. As a research assistant at Notre Dame, Sarah administered and coded counting book interventions with low-income preschoolers. She also conducted interviews and focus groups for a mixed-methods study investigating the outcomes of partnerships between the Spanish department faculty and organizations serving the local Hispanic population.
For her senior capstone, Sarah studied the relationship between teachers’ beliefs surrounding English Learner (EL) education, their practices in the classroom regarding their EL students, and the behavioral engagement of their EL students through teacher interviews and classroom observations. Her research interests include bilingual and bicultural education, education policy, and the school and outside factors affecting student academic motivation and engagement.
