Makedah Johnson joined Child Trends in June 2016 and works as a senior research assistant for the Reproductive Health and Family Formation program area. As an undergraduate student at the University of Maryland, Makedah worked as a research intern with Adventist Healthcare’s Center for Health Equity & Wellness. In that position, she analyzed data to indicate the state of health disparities among patients and wrote the background for a grant proposal to provide free colorectal cancer screening services to underserved communities in Montgomery County, Md.
Makedah is interested in pursuing a career in public health that focuses on researching and implementing interventions to improve the health and well-being of underserved communities. Her topics of interest include mental and behavioral health, child and adolescent health, and the impact of socio-economic status on health status. In the future, Makedah plans to pursue a master’s in public health degree with concentration in epidemiology.
