Laura is a member of the proposal development team and reports to the senior director of contracts, compliance and administration. She is responsible for independently leading the proposal preparation and submission process. In addition, she collaborates with research, contracts, and finance staff to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of proposal submissions. This work includes independently managing individual bids from kick-off to submission. Laura reviews requests for proposals (RFPs) to create work plans and timelines for research staff, leads kick-off meetings to discuss internal deadlines, and reviews proposal materials to ensure compliance and accuracy. She also communicates with external clients to share pre-proposal questions, submit proposal packages, and request feedback once agency awards have been announced. Her other responsibilities include maintaining a record of all pending and awarded proposals, updating the shared calendar of RFP deadlines for the proposals and finance teams, coordinating CVs for all research staff, preparing monthly reports for various research and finance staff, conducting prospect research on potential funding opportunities, and developing strategic internal documents.
Prior to joining Child Trends, Laura taught elementary school for two years at a children’s home in Honduras through Bilingual Education for Central America (BECA). She worked with many children who were victims of trauma and abuse there. Laura loves Spanish and Latin American culture and hopes to return to the region again. She is passionate about using education as a tool to empower children and the impact that being a member of a marginalized population has on youth. Laura graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in business administration and a minor in community development, where she was involved in organizations that focused on racial relations and female education. In her spare time, Laura enjoys volunteering, exploring new cities, dancing, and working on her Spanish.
