Child Trends is leading an evaluation, funded by the National Institute of Justice’s Comprehensive School Safety Initiative, of Safe School Certification in Washington D.C. public and public charter schools serving 7th and 8th grades. SSC is an innovative school climate capacity framework designed to help schools design and implement individualized, data-driven to improve school climate and reduce violence and bullying. As part of this evaluation, Child Trends is conducting both an outcomes evaluation using the Department of Education’s School Climate Surveys as well as implementation evaluation using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System-Secondary (CLASS-S) observation system.
