Race Equity

Child Trends thinks critically about the historical, political, and societal biases—explicit and implicit—that impact the lives of children, especially those in communities of color. We collect, analyze, and present data to accurately describe the experiences of and disparities between youth from different racial and ethnic groups. In an effort to conduct research and evaluation that integrates racial equity, we strive to be culturally responsive and to empower communities to participate in the research process in meaningful ways. We assess the validity of measures and constructs for communities of color, and contextually interpret our findings to identify structural and systems-level drivers of inequity where they exist.
