"Best Bets" to Promote Quality Sibling Relationships:
Promote Similar Levels of Certain Behaviors

Somewhat counter-intuitively, some research suggests that delinquent acts can serve as a common interest between siblings and thereby foster sibling relationships. Slomkowski et al. (2001) found that common levels of delinquency are positively related to sibling relationship quality. Utilizing a nationally representative sample, Rowe et al. (1992) found a similar relationship between shared levels of delinquency and positive sibling relationships.
