"Best Bets" to Promote Quality Parent-Child Relationships:
Discourage Certain Anti-Social Qualities in Child

Data from a subsample of the NSFH indicated that parent reports of characteristics such as unhappiness, anxiety, bullying, or a quick temper in the adolescent, for example, were positively associated with higher reports of conflict in the parent-child relationship (Barber, 1994). The sample was composed of 1828 parents of at least one child between 12- and 18-years-old. Participants were Caucasian (73%), African American (21%), and Hispanic (6%).
