Depressive symptoms also predicted the development of sleep problems, as adolescents who reported "notable" depressive symptoms at baseline were about 50% more likely to develop sleep problems and frequent sleep problems than those without such symptoms.

Continued sleep problems were also more common among adolescents who had depressive symptoms at baseline, although this relationship is complicated by the fact that sleep difficulties can be a symptom of depression.
