Programs With Mixed Reviews on Postsecondary School Attendance and Attainment: High Quality Early Childhood Programs

Among a set of high quality early childhood intervention programs that were experimentally evaluated, two were effective in increasing educational attainment. The High/ Scope Perry Preschool was found to increase high school graduation rates (Barnett, 1995; Currie, 2000), and the Abecedarian project increased years of schooling completed (Campbell, Ramey, Pungello, Sparling, & Johnson, 2002). However, the Early Training Program had no effect on participants' high school graduation rates (Barnett, 1995; Currie, 2000).
