| "Best Bets" for Promoting High School Completion: Enrollment In Academic Track |
McNeal (1995) found that students in the academic track were less likely to drop out of high school than students in lower tracks, after controlling for background factors. Tracking placement was also found to be related to increased likelihood of attending college. Similarly, Borus and Carpenter (1984) found that high school seniors in the college prep track were more likely than those in the general track to attend college. No difference was found between college attendance rates of those in the vocational and general tracks. |
