"Best Bets" for Increasing Educational Expectations: Promote Increased School Engagement

Likewise, Berends (1995) noted that, within a national sample of high school students, those with higher levels of school engagement in 10th grade had higher expectations of attending college in 12th grade than those with lower levels of school engagement. This result remained despite controls for earlier college expectations, as well as other important characteristics of the adolescents' and their environments.
