For instance, Glasgow et al. (1997) found that adolescents who described their parents' interactions with them in such a way that would indicate they have a neglectful parenting style (neither showing acceptance and involvement, nor providing supervision or being strict with him or her) held lower educational expectations than their peers whose descriptions of their parents indicated that they used an authoritative parenting style (showing both acceptance of the child and involvement in his or her life, as well as providing supervision and being strict with him or her).
