Finally, a third study found a relationship between greater levels of autonomy-granting by teachers and less extrinsically motivation, as well as more self-regulated motivation (Chirkov & Ryan, 2001). Although this study is cross-sectional design, it supports the findings of other studies suggesting that individuals' levels of autonomy in their environments are important factors in affecting motivation, more generally.
