- Programs (Quantum Opportunities) that combine life skills training with mentoring and rewards for participation in programs (Increase is apparent 6 months post-program participation).

 

- Service-Learning programs (e.g., Learn-and-Serve America) that combine civics education with a community service component. 

 

 

- Promote the community service participation of parents in addition to their children.

- Increase the availability and accessibility of community service opportunities, particularly for low-SES youth.

- Implement programs that occur at least once per week.

- Provide youth the opportunity to feel appreciated for their work and have input in the formation of programs.
