Academic Achievement Programs

All of the programs reviewed in this report are designed to improve academic achievement, although for many of them academic achievement is a component rather than the sole focus of the program.  Thus, the emphasis on academic achievement varies, as do the types of activities.  Some of the activities offered by the programs include homework completion and assistance, supplemental academic classes, academic games and activities, computer-assisted instruction and educational games, educational board games, one-on-one tutoring, and reading, writing, and vocabulary activities.  Many of the programs are located in low-income neighborhoods with large minority populations, and most of them are targeted toward children and adolescents who are considered at risk of one or more negative developmental outcomes.  Click here for a list of programs evaluated in this report
