Mission/Goals: Working Classroom offers art and acting classes to young people in historically ignored communities to help develop their creative, academic, and leadership skills and to create art for the community. Members are encouraged to use their talents to promote peace and human rights in the United States and the world.

Working classroom serves about 120-150 participants a year Students 12 years and older. About 90% of participants are between 12 and 24 years old, but some actors in the theater group are adults Please click here for more information on this evaluation.

Type of Evaluation: Outcomes Monitoring (Includes process and implementation evaluation component)

Objective: To assess program success, individual student progress, instructor satisfaction, student satisfaction, student promotion/retention, eligibility for scholarship renewal, and accountability to funders.

Impact/Outcomes: Five students were reported to have dropped out of school before graduation. Two participants reported having become pregnant before graduation, two students had criminal arrests, and two participants committed physical assaults. Over 95% of participants graduated from high school and over 60% enrolled in post secondary education. It is important to note that participants attend high schools with drop out rates between 30-60%. Only 2 cases of drug use were reported.
