Type of Evaluation: Outcomes Monitoring

Objective: To assess the influence of the Rocky Mountain Youth Corps program on youth outcomes.

Impact/Outcomes: All of the outcomes (see outcomes examined) reflected a change between pre-test and post-test in the
direction of the desired outcome. All changes were significant at the .05 level or greater with the exception of risk taking, impact of ATOD use, and youth access to ATOD. Findings indicated that 88% percent of students improved a grade or more, 25% raised one grade in one subject, 25% raised one grade in 2 subjects, 4% raised 1 grade in
3 subjects, 14% raised 2 grades in 1 subject, 18% raised 2 grades in 2 subjects, and 7% raised 3 grades in 1 subject. The perceptions of harm of ATOD reflected the largest change in the direction of the desired outcome, followed by parental support, adult ATOD use, aggressive behaviors, and parents attitudes toward youth ATOD use.

Full-time corps members work 40 hours per week and receive a living stipend. Corp members in the after-school program work 20 hours a week and also receive a stipend.
