City Scan:
Program Description
|
The purpose of City Scan is to compile a list of after-school programs that serve children ages 8-16 in sixteen (16) U.S. cities. The following information is included for each program:
Background Information
This category includes the location of the organization that provides the program, their Web site, the mission or goal of the program, and the sources where this information was found.
Program Size
This describes the number of children and youth served by the program. Most programs serve 50 or more children and youth.
Age Range
This is the age range the program serves. Only programs that serve children and youth ages 8-16 were included.
Description of Research
Type of evaluation. Evaluations of these programs were designated experimental, quasi-experimental, or outcomes monitored. Experimental, the strongest design choice, involves the random assignment of program participants into a treatment or a control group and allows causal or general assertions of a program’s impact. Quasi-experimental designs are similar to experimental except that the participants are not randomly assigned to either a treatment or control group. The researcher cannot draw causal conclusions. The outcomes monitoring design is longitudinal and non-experimental. Data are collected from participants over several points in time, but the participants are not in comparison groups or randomly assigned to a program and there is no comparison group.
Objective: The purpose of the evaluation study.
Sample: A description of the children and youth involved in the study.
Methodology: A description of the research methodology for the study.
Outcomes Examined: The outcomes for children and youth measured by researchers.
Measurement Instruments: Instruments such as surveys, scales, and questionnaires used by researchers for the study.
Impact/Outcome Findings: For experimental, the impact of the program on children and youth; for other study designs, correlations between the evaluated program and outcomes for children and youth.
Study: The citation of the evaluation report.
Program Fee
This is the amount, if any, children and youth must pay to participate in the program.
