Type of Evaluation: Outcomes Monitoring

Summary of Available Evaluation Information: Committed Partners for Youth (CPY) is a community-based individual mentoring program that matches responsible adults and at risk youth. CPY has operated in Portland for 13 years. Sharon A. Baggett, Ph.D., conducted an independent evaluation of Committed Partners for Youth in 1998-99. The results of that study indicated that 97% of youth completing the CPY program remained in school. For 41% of CPY students, grade averages improved in the final term over the first term. Youth self-ratings of school life and behavior, including "staying out of trouble" and "following rules, all showed significant positive change. The study also reported that 60% of youth demonstrated improved behavior and 71% self-reported an improvement in family relationships. Boys and Girls Aid Society has continued to monitor these outcomes each program year and has found similar results. In an effort to improve programming and evaluation methods, more outcomes have been added, including non-parent adult support for youth, youth participation in new
activities, youth self-perception, and engagement in academics. Additional outcome findings will be available after September, 2005 from Vera Stoulil.

Other Relevant Evaluation Information:
Boys and Girls Aid Society of Oregon also internally monitors some outcomes for girls in the Girls Leadership And Development Program (GLAD), a positive youth development pregnancy prevention program.
