Mission/Goals: Ethos Music is a nonprofit multicultural music center which promotes music and music-based education for Oregon youth.

Notes: Ethos has four main programs including: Music Lessons for Kids (lessons at our headquarters), Music Corps (lessons directly in schools), Sound School Assemblies (concerts in the schools), and Music Across Oregon (rural outreach with our Double Decker “Music Mobile” and instructors). Ethos also runs music camps in the summer.

Type of Evaluation: Outcomes Monitoring.

Summary of Available Evaluation Information: Ethos Music Center has had several business evaluations conducted by outside student evaluators from Portland State University and Harvard University. These evaluations examine the management structure and business practices of Ethos by using surveys and focus groups to determine customer satisfaction and possible ways to improve the program and reach a wider audience. Ethos also conducts internal evaluations that collect data on child outcome measures. Due to confidentiality reasons, however, these internal evaluations could not be shared with Child Trends.

Fee is dependent upon program. Ethos Music Camps cost $125 but if the child is eligible for free lunch then the fee is only $75. School-based programs are offered to the schools on a sliding scale depending on the percentage of children who are eligible for free or reduced priced lunches.
