Type of Evaluation: Outcomes Monitoring.

Summary of Available Evaluation Information: CDAP is a substance use prevention program patterned after Methamphetamine Awareness Project (MAP), a program for students in rural areas funded by the the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP). MAP is currently in the second year of a three year experimental study in suburban and rural Oregon schools. The Portland CDAP program is located in a low-income, predominately African American neighborhood in Portland. Participants in CDAP create a public service video with help from adult mentors and paid film professionals from a Portland film center. Students are encouraged to show the product in their communities. The focus of the program is not the product, but skill development, child-adult bonding, and group cooperation.
RMC Research Corporation recently completed a report on the one-year pilot of CDAP in 2004 for CSAP. Pre-post assessments in the pilot study measured substance use, attitudes, and behavior. The sample of students reported low levels of substance use throughout the program.
A five year longitudinal evaluation of CDAP is currently underway to find long-term outcomes for youth in the program. This non-experimental evaluation will monitor outcomes for students from grades 10 through 12.

No fee.
