Type of Evaluation: Experimental.

Objective: To examine the benefits of summer jobs and support services for low-income youth participating in the Summer Career Exploration Program for the first time.

Impact/Outcome Findings: Of the original sample, 89 percent completed the one-year follow-up survey. Over the summer, participants were more likely than control group members to be employed and to believe that they received more personalized training, even though they had lower hourly wages than control group members. During the school year, participants were more likely than control group members to be enrolled in college-track curricula and to visit a College Access Center.
