Note: KIPP schools are independently run, open-enrollment public schools. Students are accepted regardless of prior academic record, conduct, or socioeconomic background. More than 80 percent of KIPP students qualify for the federal free and reduced-price meal program. Each member of the school community signs a 'commitment form' pledging to the quality work and long hours necessary for success.

 

Summary of Available Evaluation Information: Over 86% of KIPP New York students perform above the national average in math and over 69% perform above the national average in reading. KIPP has ranked in the top 10% of all New York City public schools for three consecutive years. In 2004, over 93% of KIPP 8th grade students earned acceptances and scholarships to top-quality private and parochial high schools. Over 80% of KIPP’s 8th grade passed the
New York State Math A Regents exam, a high school graduation requirement exam. Of KIPP graduates in the past two years, 59% of the Class of 2003 and 81% of the Class of 2004 are now enrolled in four year colleges and universities.
