Mission/Goals: BELL works to ensure the healthy intellectual,
physical, emotional, and spiritual development of children living in
economically disadvantaged communities.
Notes: BELL oversees two major
programs: BASICs is an extended day tutorial at local schools and
community centers: and BELL Summer is a comprehensive six-week academic
camp that provides intensive academic instruction, hands-on educational,
cultural, artistic and recreational activities, guest speakers, community
service projects and field trips. |

Objective: To determine the influence of BASICs on youth outcomes. |
The program is free for parents who are eligible for supplemental educational services (SES) under the No Child Left Behind Act. Otherwise, parents pay tuition each semester according to a sliding scale, based on their gross annual income. |
