Type of Evaluation: Outcomes Monitoring

Objective: To determine the influence of program participation on youth outcomes.

Impact/Outcomes: Approximately 55% of the youth surveyed had more knowledge about HIV following CARES basic HIV 101 curricula, and there was an overall 22% increase in knowledge from pre to post test assessments. Over half of participants had more knowledge of behavioral choices for risk reduction following programming. Approximately 82% of participants who reported never having sexual intercourse reported a commitment to delaying sexual intercourse, and participants who reported previous sexual intercourse self reported a commitment to three or more risk reduction behaviors. This was a 31% increase from pre test indicators. In addition, 42% of participants increased their perceived ability to discuss HIV and sexuality issues with an adult.
