Type of Evaluation: Outcomes Monitoring.

Objective: To obtain meaningful data from adolescents who are referred for mentoring services to help describe the benefits that mentoring has on participating youth.

Impact/Outcome Findings: Comparisons of the POSIT and Follow Up POSIT show that after participation in the VIP mentoring program, scores for participants showed a statistically significant improvement in the domains of substance abuse, peer relationships, and aggressive behavior/delinquency. Scores also improved in the domains of mental health, peer relations, educational status, and family relations, but were not statistically significant. Only 22 youth provided data on school grade point average (GPA), so results cannot be generalized. Nonetheless, there was a general trend toward improved academic performance between the pre- and post- measures of reported GPA.
