Mission/Goals: To build long-term, life-changing relationships with
urban youth. |
3,100 students in 2002-03 | Grades 4-12 |
Type of Evaluation: Outcomes Monitoring.
Summary of Available Evaluation Information: Colorado Uplift began as a jobs program, placing minority high school students in summer jobs. Eventually, UpLIFT expanded its efforts, utilizing top high school students from the job placement program to teach younger students and establish mentoring relationships. Approximately 90% of UpLIFT students graduate from high school, compared to 60% of their non-UpLIFT peers. Roughly 95% of those graduates go on to college (30-50%), careers, or join the military. In the 2003-04 school year, 716 students were tested at the beginning and end of the school year with a grade-appropriate survey instrument covering the core 13 curriculum areas (consisting of character qualities and life skills). Fifty percent of students surveyed showed significant improvement between the two test administrations, measured by the number of correctly answered questions. A more rigorous evaluation of the program is not currently available. |
