Mission/Goals: Goals of Student Theatre Enrichment Program (STEP) is to provide low-income high school youth with opportunities to learn acting and theatre, to acquire job skills such as attendance and time management, and to develop personal skills including focus and self-respect. This five-week program is offered throughout the year. Students earn wages by participating in this program.

Brick City Theatre, in partnership with Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority, offers theatre arts instruction for children and youth residing in public housing developments.

About 50 youth participated in STEP and 80 children participated in Brick City in 2004. STEP serves youth ages 14 to 19.

Type of Evaluation: Outcomes Monitoring.  This report summarizes the evaluation of Fall 2004 STEP program.


Objective: To track students' progress in learning acting skills and developing personal skills.


Impact/Outcomes: The teacher assessment indicated that students made the greatest achievement in arts and personal skills: all participants increased their ratings on personal skills and arts. In addition, 13 out of 15 students increased their ratings on interpersonal skills and 8 out of 15 students increased their ratings on workplace skills.
