Type of Evaluation: Outcomes monitoring

Objective: To determine whether the program changes girls attitudes and behaviors.

Impact/Outcome Findings: Based on preliminary evaluation findings, girls rated themselves as having significant improvements in the Self-Efficacy subscale measuring perceptions of personal confidence and effectiveness and for the Social Efficacy subscale measuring perceptions of beliefs and behaviors related to socially appropriate interactions. Participants rated themselves as improving in the Physical Health and Nutrition subscale measuring positive health beliefs and practices. They reported no change in the Body Image subscale measuring perceptions of physical appearance, weight and clothes. For the School Performance subscale measuring perceived attitudes and behaviors associated with school performance, girls rated themselves as decreasing in their perception of their school performance. One explanation may be that girls’ academic expectations were significantly increased by participation, making it more difficult to achieve academic goals. The majority of girls (94%) reported that they would tell a friend to join the program, 93% said they would sign up again, and 81% reported being "very happy" with the program.

$120 per girl; however, schools often pay this fee. If a school is not covering the cost of the program, scholarships are available.
