Notes: BGCA clubs serve school-age youth through a variety of programs including homework assistance, technology centers, teen centers, career exploration, job assistance, sports and recreation, art classes and leadership development. In addition to program development, Boys & Girls Clubs of America provides programmatic and executive training for Club professionals nationwide.

Five clubs in the Cincinnati area serve over 6,000 boys and girls annually. Ages 6-18

Type of Evaluation: Quasi-experimental.

Note: The evaluation reported here does not include the Greater Cincinnati program.

Objective: This evaluation sought to examine the effects of a non-school educational enhancement program (part of Boys & Girls Club) on school performance among economically disadvantaged early adolescents who live in public housing.

Impact/Outcome Findings:
After 30 months, greater engagement and enjoyment in reading, verbal skills, writing, and tutoring, plus greater enjoyment in geography, were found for program youth compared to the comparison group.
