Mission/Goals: The mission is to teach about the role of the justice system in American democracy.

Notes: Information provided here only pertains to the Legal Apprenticeship Program. The after school program runs for 10 week sessions and takes teams of students to a different law firm once a week. This program operates in partnership with the Citizen Schools.

Summary of Available Evaluation Information: Discovering Justice conducts internal self-assessments that rely on pre/post testing and feedback from staff involved with the program. The evaluation report will be completed in early 2005.

Notes: Discovering Justice runs five civic education programs: 1) Children Discovering Justice, a curriculum on laws, rules and justice for first and second graders, is taught in 88 classrooms in the Boston area; 2) Arts and the Law brings professional actors and educational theater to the civic space of U.S. courthouses in Massachusetts to teach students about American Constitutional history and law; 3) Legal Apprenticeship Program for Boston public middle school students recruits lawyers and judges to teach about the American justice system and culminates each spring and fall in an Evening of Mock Trials in which students "litigate" cases before real federal and state judges and celebrity jurors; 4) Courthouse Tours. 5) and Lectures Program.
