Mission/Goals: 21st Century Leaders increases the number and diversity of Georgia's future leaders by delivering world-class business leadership training to GA high school students with high leadership aptitude from diverse backgrounds. The program is long-term and business/ career-focused.

The first summer program, in 1991, served 31 students from eight high schools, for a one-week residential program on one college campus. The program has since expanded to five college campuses, serving more than 300 students from over 80 high schools across Georgia. High school students

Summary of Available Evaluation Information:
This program conducted a self-assessment which adheres to the following process:
(1) Teachers from participating schools are convened annually to offer feedback on how programs are operating at their schools; (2) students are given pre and post tests at each summer program week; (3) parental feedback is secured on a regular basis; (4) program graduates are surveyed annually to assess long-term program effectiveness.
Over 94% of program graduates enroll in college, 82% graduate within 4 years; 39% declare business/ professional majors & 36% participate in science, engineering or technical degree programs. They are included here as a "promising program."

Notes: Implemented new Kroger Youth Leadership program for students employed by Kroger stores in 2000. Local Youth Councils formed by 21st Century Leaders participants led their schools to have an increased emphasis on service while a statewide Youth Council reviews and approves mini-grant funding (provided by Georgia Learn and Serve), for student-led service projects.
