Mission/Goals: Cool Girls is dedicated to the self-empowerment of girls in low-income communities. It provides tools to help girls make positive choices to achieve academic success, break the cycles of teen pregnancy and poverty, and to overcome the barriers of racism and sexism.

Notes: Programs include: Cool Scholars: tutoring program; Cool Sisters: mentoring program; Cool Girls Club: five-week educational learning modules focusing on life skills, pregnancy prevention, entrepreneurship, wellness and conflict resolution; Cool Tech: technology program for career development; and Cool Biz: week-long summer program designed to teach business concepts and entrepreneurship skills.

Type of Evaluation: Quasi-experimental; Pre-post; Test; Outcomes Monitoring

Objective: To measure the implications of the program on participants.

Impact/Outcomes: Relative to girls in a matched comparison group, girls who attend Cool Girls reported less substance use, greater self-worth, increased ability to resist peer pressure to use drugs, less pregnancy, increased goal setting ability, and greater engagement in cultural and extra-curricular activities.
