NUTRITION

Poor nutrition affects children’s physical and intellectual development and may therefore hinder early school success (Korenman, Miller, & Sjaastad, 1995). Programs such as the Special Supplement Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and Food Stamps have been found to be effective in increasing the nutritional intake of children (Gordon & Nelson, 1995; Rose, Hablicht, & Devaney, 1998).
