| Many approaches have been employed to address the problem of poverty and school readiness. Trying to teach parents work skills and raise families’ incomes above the poverty level is one option. Another is to address the problems that are associated with child poverty by doing such things as providing quality early child care, improving nutrition and health care, teaching parents effective parenting skills and educational activities to carry out with their children, or improving the social network and support for stressed poor mothers.
