Consistent with Erikson’s and Tajfel’s theoretical perspectives, the Ethnic Identity Scale (EIS) assesses three domains of ethnic identity formation: exploration, resolution, and affirmation. High school and university students (N = 846) completed measures of familial ethnic socialization and self-esteem in addition to completing the EIS. Results suggest that the EIS is psychometrically sound and appropriate for use with adolescents ranging in age and ethnic background. Furthermore, findings from the current study highlight developmental trends and contextual influences that can be examined using the EIS.
