Dr. Wildsmith has a strong interest in several areas of social demography, including the complex relationships between social context, the family, and individual level well-being. She is interested in race-ethnic and socioeconomic differences in family formation and the transition to adulthood as well as in the impact of these transitions on the health and well-being of women and children. Her research has examined the transition to adulthood, teenage and nonmarital childbearing, the intendedness of childbearing, family structure, children’s health and well-being, women's reproductive well-being, and school readiness.
