YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
In the Youth Development area, we conduct, compile, and disseminate research and evaluate out-of-school time programs designed for children and adolescents. We share our work with practitioners in the field, policy makers, the media, and even with youth who use these programs.
Findings from our research have been compiled into What Works, five online tools that highlight the most promising programs and approaches that aid in reducing risk for youth and enhancing their positive development. One of these tools, LINKS (Lifecourse Interventions to Nuture Kids Successfully), is a database summary of evaluations of out-of-school time programs that work (or not) to enhance children's development.
Child Trends has many Resources by Topic for the community involved in the activities of youth during non-school hours, including:
-
Research Briefs - reports produced periodically that feature the latest research about children and youth
- Presentations - talks given by Child Trends researchers
- Fact Sheets - occasional papers highlghting our new research in a timely and accessible manner
- Practitioner Insights - short papers specifically for the practitioner community
- Other Publications - publications authored by Child Trends staff but published by other organizations
Child Trends staff are available to assist with both implementation/formative and outcome/impact evaluations. We have worked with youth development organizations to develop logic models, plan evaluation designs, provide data collection instruments, conduct cognitive interviews and focus groups, analyze data, and provide presentations and training both in person and electronically. Contact Kristin Anderson Moore (via webmaster@childtrends.org) for further information.
We gratefully acknowledge the following funders for their support: The Atlantic Philanthropies, the Alexander B. and Margaret Stewart Trust, and the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation.
